Be still. And know that I am God. (Psalm 46:10)
How often am I still, really?
Sure. Sometimes the stars align and I have moments to spare. But more often than not, the responsibilities, plans, noise, and distractions of life overpower the stillness. I was challenged this week, that even when I was physically moving; mentally, I was ‘stilling’. Instead of getting caught up in the whirl of life thoughts. I let them settle around me and took a mental pause. Gave it back to God, and I watched miracles happen.
Be still, and know that I am God. (Psalm 46:10)
Instead of jumping up out of bed in the morning, on the days where I could. I stayed a little longer. Pondering God. Pondering whimsy. Any opportunity I was able to, I was still. And the ideas, creativity and feelings of whimsy came. I would feel it bubble up inside. Almost like God was challenging me to live life to the full, in amongst all of the needs and challenges of it all. Would I do the thing that stepped out of the “normal” box, and live into brave whimsy? Would I choose to take my children on an adventure? To put aside my ‘to do’ list and show them the beauty of God? Would I look for the gifts in nature with them? The God gift of taste with them? Would I choose to love them, even when everything felt agitating? Would I be still with them? Watch with them? Would I stop worrying, and be… brave? Be brave in the hard moments, because my soul was simmering with the whimsy and beauty pull of God? Because God had filled me with wonder and awe BECAUSE I was still enough to listen?
God doesn’t ask us to be ‘stuck’ in our lives. He challenges us to live life abundantly in Him. This is why He came to earth for us.
“The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10)
There are so many ways that the thief comes to steal, kill and destroy…
- fear chokes our soul and occupies our thoughts
- worry strangles our mind and steals our ability to rest in Jesus
- anxiety tightens our hearts and breaks our peace in Him
- comparison cuts us deep, and murders our ability to feel joy and contentment
- striving in our own strength weakens our body, exhausts our soul, and can give false and empty pride in what we have accomplished – what have we accomplished, really?
These are just a few, there are so many, many ways to lose our peace in Jesus.
“I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10)
It’s time to have an abundant life. Not just occasionally – but every day.
Friends, we have to go to Jesus. The Author and Finisher of our faith. Just be with Him. Find whatever pockets of quiet you can. . . even in the busyness – quiet your mind. Picture all of your worries whirling about and let them settle, so all you see is Jesus. Put your phone down. Journal and pray to God your heart daily. If your life is too busy and too noisy for this – simplify it. You are the conductor of the orchestra of your little corner of the world. Quit the extra. Be still and let God bring you the ideas of how to live your life to the full. Let God bring you life. He knows what brings you joy and whimsy. He sees you. He WANTS to delight you! He doesn’t need you, HE LOVES YOU. You are a delight to Him!
My brother-in-law gave me a journal recently, and on it is pictured Eeyore, from Winnie the Pooh, and surrounding Eeyore are the words “It’s okay… to take it slow.”
I’ve looked at that cover often; and taken a breath. It’s okay to be slow.
With love and wildflower whimsy,

Quote of the week:
“Nobody sees a flower really; it is so small. We haven’t time, and to see takes time.” – Georgia O’Keeffe
P.S. I just want you to know that I am sharing what I am learning weekly. Some days I’m broken, and some days I’m hopeful. I just feel such a stir that everyone needs to have God’s whimsy burning in their souls. Will you journey with me?
