Another week, another adventure.
How is everyone? Did you remember to bring out the garden snips on Thursday? I almost forgot. . . but then happened to turn to John chapter 15:2 the morning of Thursday (synchronicity much!) “Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” The word ‘prunes’ jumped out at me… Another toxic belief cut away.
For the longest time now, I have leant into the understanding that if life is going pear shaped, it’s time to rein it in and focus on myself for a bit. But thinking about that, doesn’t it just sound a bit yuk? I now realize that it’s not myself I need to be focusing on, but Jesus. Resting in the knowledge that whatever comes my way is God ordained for my story, and to follow His leading in each moment. Checking in to see if I have my heart posture in the direction of Jesus. Of the work He has called me to in my home. Of being salt and light. And trusting that He will care for my needs. . . even the needs of rest, nurture and quiet and fun and whimsy!
I shared an escape to some local rainforest mountains over the weekend. And having that time away from my normal environment was a gift. A reminder that God cares for my needs of soul and mind rest.
There was an evening moment while there where we were looking at the night sky, the stars everywhere – the bright orange moon rising. It was breathtaking. We were surrounded by the awesome majesty of God. How small we are. How big He is. It was inescapable. It felt like Holy Ground. It reminded me that God is always there. Always everywhere. It’s up to me to be still and quiet enough to see, to feel His presence, to behold.
I’m going to leave you now with a poem my daughter read to me in her school and some poetic musings from my day. And also, a reminder/challenge for you and for me to intentionally observe the beauty of God in nature. To talk to Him. And to know that He truly sees and cares for you and what you need. There is so much peace, rest and hope in this.
But first, my daughters school poem:
The Great Picture Book
By Frank Ellis
The world's a pleasant picture book,
Wherein my eyes may daily look,
And see the things set there to please:
Mountains and valleys, rocks and trees.
Soft rivers where the sunbeams play;
The blue sky spread far, far away;
Bright flowers that blossom at my feet,
The tender grass, the ripened wheat.
Though I am young, I may grow wise
When on this book I turn my eyes,
And, as I look, with reverence see
The pictures painted there for me.
'Tis God who made this book so fair,
Who gave the colors that are there;
Who paints the daisies red and white,
And in the sky sets stars at night.
And some musings…
Days blur to days
to weeks to months to years
A life.
I only have today. . . now.
Is my soul at peace?
Tethered?
Afraid?
I take the time to notice.
To hear my own heart thrum.
I murmur my burdens and soul weights
to my Father. Pen trembles.
I write down truth. The core of me.
He holds my heart
He breathes it back to life.
I exhale.
I place my hands to my heart in worship.
The place I am standing is Holy Ground.
He is here, now, in this moment.
A tear breaks.
He has covered the broken cracks
And refined my heart as gold.
I can't even comprehend.
He gets all the glory.
He alone, is worthy of my praise.
He covers me with His love
I am held in His hands.
I live in the Goodness of God
With Wildflower Whimsy,
Steph xo
P.S. (Can’t forget a little quote of the week…!)
That’s something I’ve noticed about food: whenever there’s a crisis if you can get people to eating normally things get better. – by Madeleine L’ Engle
I tested this one out, it works! Have the best week everyone! Talk soon xo
